When building a custom home, a foyer is a great place to highlight a grand chandelier, perhaps visible through a transom glass above the front door. If that is not your taste, countless other options exist for light fixtures; remember, this is where your guests (and you!) step into your home, so make it special. You also need to plan the placement of light switches. In larger custom homes, you may need several switches to operate lighting for the driveway, porch, foyer, and traffic areas leading off the foyer. A common practice is installing a low voltage lighting control package that has multiple buttons in a single switch unit, eliminating a bank of light switches.
IF YOU HAVE A LIMITED BUDGET FOR THE FOYER, THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER ARE: (1) UPGRADING THE FINISHES IN YOUR FOYER, AND (2) UPGRADING YOUR FOYER CHANDELIER.
IS HAVING A FOYER THAT IS OUT OF PROPORTION WITH THE REST OF THE HOME: TOO LARGE OR SMALL.
