If you are from the Carolinas then you are very familiar with all of the joys that come along with living in the Lowcountry and specifically Charleston. Charleston is the favorite weekend destination for any who has ever lived in South Carolina and you often hear Carolinians bragging about their weekend plans when they include Charleston. So, we are starting a blog series where we will be highlighting the pleasures of living in Mt Pleasant and the Charleston area. Whether you are a new visitor or lifetime local we hope you will find this series a great resource for Lowcountry living.
To kickoff the series we have put together a list of some of the great Spring events in the Mt Pleasant and Charleston the next couple of month
Starting April 8th: Mt Pleasant Farmers Market
Spring time, flowers and fresh produce are almost synonymous. Every Tuesday through October 14th from 3:30 to 7 this market, on Coleman Boulevard, is full of fresh produce, flowers, baked goods and more. Find out more about this local favorite, the Mt Pleasant Farmers Market.
April 10th-13th: The Lowcountry Strawberry Festival
A fun spring weekend event for families is the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens. April 22nd-24th: ECCO 2nd Annual Golf Ball Tournament & Gala
East Cooper Community Outreach is holding its second annual Golf tournament on Earth Day Tuesday April 22nd at the Daniel Island Club. The tournament is followed by a Gala on the 24th which will include dancing, live entertainment, and Lowcountry cuisine. Find out more about this event from East Cooper Community Outreach.
April 26th: Shaggin’ on the Cooper
There is probably nothing more Lowcountry then shaggin’ on a pier. So put on your dancing shoes and head over to the Mount Pleasant Pier for Shaggin’ on the Cooper with the Royal Scotsman Band. View the full schedule from the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission.
April 27th: Blessing of the Fleet Seafood Festival
For 27 years the festival celebrates and pays tribute to Mount Pleasant’s fishing and shrimping industry. Meet up with locals at Memorial Waterfront Park on Sunday April 27th to watch a boat parade, listen to live music, and more. Find out more about the Blessing of the Fleet Seafood Festival.
May 2nd-3rd: Sweet Grass Music Festival
Friday and Saturday May 2nd and 3rd fans of bluegrass are in for a treat with the 2nd annual Sweet Grass Festival. Taking place at Patriots Point this festival offers great scenery as well as live music. View more about the festival and the full lineup from the Sweet Grass Music Festival.
May 3rd: Dragon Boat Festival
At Brittlebank Park on May 3rd you will find colorful costumes, rowing competitions, food, and more. The 7th annual Charleston Dragon Boat Festival is described as “huge party and celebration of cancer survivors”. Find out more about this inspiring event, Charleston Dragon Boat Festival.
May 17th: Charleston Beer Garden
If you think beer and warm weather are like peanut butter and jelly mark you for the Charleston Beer Garden at Brittlebank Park on May 3rd. May 17th: Shaggin’ on the Cooper
