Buying a home is a big decision, especially if you plan to build. There are so many things to take into consideration when it comes to choosing the right floor plan, location, and amenities that your family can enjoy now and for years to come.
At Arthur Rutenberg Homes, we’ve been building custom homes in Hendersonville and the surrounding areas for more than 20 years, so we’ve met all kinds of different families and helped them move into their dream homes.
Working with a custom homebuilder gives you the chance to choose everything you want in a home, down to the last detail. It means you don’t have to settle for anything that you might not like in an existing home on the market. But deciding what’s best for your family now and in the future, and fulfilling all your needs and wants in a home can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. That’s why we put together the following checklist, to help you decide what your custom home must include, from the early design stages down to the finishing touches.
- Location: Think about what features you’d like your neighborhood to have. Do you want a sense of community or would you like some space from your neighbors? Do you need to be close to good schools? Would you like to be away from the bustle of town or near shopping and main roads?
- Home design: Think about homes you’ve seen that have architectural elements you like. Maybe you like very sleek, modern design; perhaps you prefer a more classic style. Also think about whether you want a one or two-story home – single-level living is growing more popular for people who want to be able to age in place – and how many bedrooms and bathrooms you’ll need.
- Extra features: Would you like to have an outdoor living area or a pool? Do you need a formal living room or dining room for entertaining? What about kids’ workstations where they can do homework, or a media room where the whole family can enjoy movies, games, and music? How much storage space do you need?
- Finishing touches: Do you love wood floors or do you prefer carpet throughout your house? What kind of color schemes are you drawn to? Would you like to have fireplaces in the home?
Once you’ve considered this list and thought about what you can and can’t do without, Arthur Rutenberg Homes will sit down with you to talk about the design process. You can start with one of our award-winning floor plans and customize it to suit your needs, or start completely from scratch. Our in-house designers will lead you through the process, step by step, to ensure your custom home is exactly what you’ve always dreamed of, and that you will be able to enjoy it for decades to come.
