
1953
Arthur Rutenberg (then age 26) founded Rutenberg Homes. Until 1969, he built homes in 10 locations on both the east and west coasts of Florida.
1955
Art’s brother, Charles Rutenberg, moved to Florida and actively headed another building and development business which used the Imperial Homes brand. The brothers shared ownership in both businesses.
1969
Rutenberg Homes and Imperial Homes were merged into US Home Corp. Arthur Rutenberg became president of US Home Corp. Art left the company in 1970 and spent the next 8 years developing and building in joint ventures with established builders.
1978
Inspired by a belief that there was a better way to partner with independent builders, Arthur Rutenberg applied franchising to the homebuilding industry by selling his first franchise to Bobby Lyons and Charles Raffo in Tampa, Florida.
1980
Based upon the success of the initial franchise, Arthur Rutenberg establishes a new company, Arthur Rutenberg® Homes, Inc., becoming the nation’s first franchisor of building companies.
1986
Based on his innovations in home designs and his homebuilder franchising system, Arthur Rutenberg was named National Builder
of the Year by Professional Builder magazine, the nation’s largest building trade publication.
1996
Arthur Rutenberg is named to the Florida Housing Hall of Fame by the Florida Home Builders Association.
2003
Arthur Rutenberg celebrates 50 years in the business, defining over the decades the quintessential Florida home and refining a unique nationally recognized customized building process.

As a franchisor, Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Inc., offers the format for a residential building business. This format includes the trademark, Arthur Rutenberg Homes, copyrighted working drawings and floor plans, proprietary software, manuals, forms and the non-exclusive right to build in a specific territory.
The franchisee provides a model home center, sells, constructs and services homes and operates the business in accordance with the Arthur Rutenberg Homes Operations Manual. Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Inc., and its 32 franchises proudly display more than 50 model homes in markets throughout Florida and in St. Marys, Georgia and in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
