Inside Look: The Andalucia model at The Lake Club at Lakewood Ranch

The Andalucia model offers the ideal Florida lifestyle in the Tuscan-inspired community of The Lake Club at Lakewood Ranch. This custom home encompasses 5,118 square feet and features a British West Indies exterior. The open concept includes a great room, a bonus room, a large kitchen and a guest suite.

Overall, the Andalucia model boasts an organic and contemporary feel for comfortable family living.

Main Countertop- White Cliff from Cambria

We sat down with ARH Senior Designer, Cindy Alander, to learn more about this model home and the design challenges that are involved with designing a home of this magnitude.

How would you describe the style of this model?

The overall feel is that of a contemporary resort. This concept is expressed through high-end furnishings and finishes, expansive outdoor living areas and the beautiful pool with its unique water features. The furnishings trend contemporary in style with sleek materials and finishes, yet they are organic and warm. I included some unique, artistic pieces of furniture that would identify a more curated look – as one might see in a high-end resort.

Wallpaper for Wine Room- Vahallan Waves (Shoal)

What did you enjoy most about this particular project?

This new Andalucia plan has many unique living spaces, which gave me the opportunity to differentiate each space with its own identity. However, each space is still connected to the core design concept.

For example, the Bonus Room is in a unique position on the opposite wall of the Great Room and shares the same fireplace opening. It was challenging and fun to express those rooms in very different ways – right down to the extremely different treatment of the fireplace face and surrounds.

Fireplace- Neolith Calacatta Bookmatch

This plan also connects all of the main living areas and the master suite directly to the outside. When all of the expansive sliding glass doors are opened, the home is completely open to the many outdoor living spaces.

What feature in this particular project would you want in your home?

There are so many – hard to pick just one! I REALLY love the 2-sided fireplace at the heart of this plan. It provides the opportunity to detail two different fireplace surrounds – with only the cost and space of one fireplace!

Flooring- Armstrong White Oak Engineered Hardwood (Limed Wolf Ridge)

What was the biggest challenge for you during this particular project?

This is a new plan unlike anything we have done before. Because of this, there were many tweaks during the process to improve details and finishes. Since the interior scheme is tied to details, this involved some shifts as we went along. As such, every inch of this home has been thoughtfully considered. The end result reflects that level of scrutiny.

Wall Tile- Alpha Tile

What distinguishes this model from other projects you have worked on?

The unique positioning of spaces in this new plan provided opportunities to do some different things. As noted above, it was challenging and fun to work with spaces so connected visually to each other and to the common outdoor spaces.

The Davidson 1479F Model: Q&A with ARH Designer Colleen Roach

The Davidson model features a two-story layout with vaulted and recessed ceilings, exposed beams and an abundance of windows. The first floor includes a luxurious master suite and private den, while the second level has two additional bedrooms and an expansive bonus room.

To get a more in depth look at this home, we sat down with ARH Designer, Colleen Roach.

How would you describe the style of this model?

This model has a modern, urban feel. It is close to uptown Charlotte,  so we wanted to create a comfortable retreat for people who work in the city. The furnishings and art work are modern, but the structure and details of the home are transitional. This creates a good balance for an inviting home.

Flooring- Dwellings Carpet ALLSTAR DW060 (ASH 945)

What did you enjoy most about this particular project?

The Davidson model is in my neighborhood. It was tremendously beneficial to be familiar with the buyer demographic and know where potential homeowners will live, work and play.

Plaza Midwood is a historical area in the metro Charlotte area and is quickly becoming one of the top places to live. It has an eclectic vibe with murals on display throughout the neighborhood. I tried to incorporate the soul of the community into the model with modern art and custom pieces.

Flooring- Sherwin-Williams SW 3134 Weathered Teak

Where did you get your design inspiration for this home?

All inspiration from this home came from our downtown area. Plaza Midwood is filled with public art and residents who love to express themselves. The Davidson model reflects that expressive character.

What is your favorite element in the space from this project?

I love the kitchen in this model! We layered a wood surround detail on the kitchen island and over the kitchen hood area with back lit LED lighting. It is a very custom & modern look.

Backsplash- Emser Tile Vogue Ceramic White Gloss

What distinguishes this model from other projects you have worked on?

The Davidson is a new plan. It is built on an infill lot, which is different for us as we typically build models in designated communities. I think potential homeowners will be impressed when they learn about our ‘On Your Lot’ program.

Home Tour: The Belmont model at Fairvue Plantation

The Belmont model at Fairvue Plantation is designed with a sense of transitional elegance in mind. The home is light and fresh with high contrasting wall coverings and fabrics.  Throughout this model, visitors can find playful patterns and textures, which add to the contemporary feel of the space.

This model welcomes family and friends with a foyer that showcases an infinity floor detail.  To the left of the foyer, large beams float over the formal Dining Room with warm up lighting. This creates a wonderful place to dine.

Overall, the Belmont is a fresh, livable floor plan with modern details that meet today’s living expectations.

We talked with ARH Senior Designer, Colleen Roach, to learn more about this model home, her design creativity and the challenges that go into designing a model with an out-of-state team.

What did you enjoy most about this particular project?

I love the spirit of Nashville! It is a great city with a fun vibe and an incredible music scene. When a city has a strong identity like Nashville, it is fun to create design features that showcase that character. We had custom instruments made and used them as wall art. They are a great memory point and make the Bonus Room an enjoyable destination.

Bonus Room Flooring-Dwellings Carpet

What is one of your design secrets/ tricks that you used in this project?

It can be a challenge to give an identity to a guest room. Because of this, I incorporated popping colorful accents in the secondary bedrooms. By adding a touch of color, these spaces come alive and are memorable to potential homeowners.

Bedroom Wall Paint- Sherwin-Williams Agreeable Gray

What is your favorite element in the space from this project?

I love the symmetry of the details in the foyer. We designed a custom inlay floor pattern and mirrored it on the foyer ceiling. With the added chandeliers we dropped in this space, it is a very warm and inviting entry.

What feature in this particular project would you want in your home?

When you enter the Belmont model, you cannot help but notice the dramatic, high ceiling and floating beams above the Dining Room table. We dropped a chandelier through the beams and incorporated lighting, which makes it a great space for a dinner party.  I would love to entertain here!

What was the biggest challenge for you during this particular project?

Communication is major when working with an out-of-state team. It is always somewhat of a challenge to design spaces that are not local.  However, The Ernst Group was an experienced team to work with and was timely in fulfilling all of our requests.

Featured Model: Brandywine 1583F at Hidden Lakes of Sharon

The Brandywine model brings the charm and beauty of the French countryside to life. Offering 5,812 square feet of living space, the floorplan is designed to provide privacy for family members, while allowing an abundance of space for entertaining.

For this home, ARH Model Designer, Kelley Vitorino, channeled the popular HGTV show “Fixer Upper”.  She decided to create a more modern and less rustic interpretation of the show’s design style.

We sat down with Kelley to discuss this “Fixer Upper” inspired home.

What is one of your design secrets/ tricks that you used in this project?

With every project, I develop a design concept statement that best describes the style of the home based on the location, market and Building Company requests. This allows me to make the best selections and appropriate decisions for the model. With the Brandywine, our builder indicated that the show “Fixer Upper” would appeal to their buyer. This was a unique request considering the interior design of a model home is typically ahead of the trend in order to remain timeless during the period it is open to the public. Consequently, my concept became a question followed by a statement: “WWJD?” as in “What would Joanna do? Now take it up a notch”.

What is your favorite element in the space from this project?

The Lower Level Basement is designed as a “Man Cave” with a pool table, Wet Bar and sitting area including a 75” LED TV and an over-sized sectional. The challenge was creating a fun and interesting space without making it too cliché.

It was exciting to find unique sports memorabilia, such as the vintage Cleveland Browns football helmet, the LeBron James rookie basketball card and a few 1960’s ticket stubs from a Cleveland Indians baseball game, to incorporate into the design. However, my favorite element is the feature wall of collectible jerseys. Each one is displayed in a modern, three sided acrylic box. The collection creates an amazing focal point that immediately adds excitement, personality and character to the space.

What feature in this particular project would you want in your home?

The top floor Bonus room in the Brandywine model is designed as a dedicated “Kids Zone”. The loft type space includes a large table for doing homework, large storage lockers for keeping art supplies, a comfy sectional and a 60” LED TV.  As a mom, I would absolutely love to have this kind of space in my home. It would be a great place for my son and his friends to hang out.

What did you enjoy most about this particular project?

Working with a new franchisee on their first Arthur Rutenberg model is always exciting. This was certainly the case with Zollinger Homes, LLC. Everyone was extremely accommodating and enthusiastic about their new model. I had not worked outside of Florida for the last couple of years, so I really enjoyed researching the area, the competition and the regional design style.

Arthur Rutenberg Homes Designer Discusses the Sierra Model

ARH Model Home Designer, Sharon Freeman, is always looking to set trends within the interior design industry. When designing a model home, she focuses on creating new and interesting spaces that draw the customer in and create memory moments for the buyers.

With the new Sierra Model, Sharon worked to combine an earthy color palette with natural materials and textures that create a familiar and modern transitional space.  This “Refined Mountain Home” is designed with extraordinary detail and finishes. This includes the soaring stone faced fireplaces, the wide planked wire brushed oak wood flooring and the elegant painted scissor truss beams. The design creates a unique space to relax and escape.

We sat down with Sharon to discuss this model home, her design inspiration and the challenges that go into designing a model home.

What did you enjoy most about this particular project?

The Building Company was a pleasure to work with!  Bruce really knows his market and exactly what he wanted and needed, making it easier to develop a design specifically for their market and for the needs of their customers. Being a Florida native, I also enjoyed the challenge of designing a “Mountain” type home. It allowed me to be creative in a different way than what I’m usually tasked to do. It was a great project to work on!

What is your favorite element in the space from this project?

My favorite element from this project was the vaulted ceilings with the painted scissor beam trusses. They fill the volume in that space and bring an element of sophistication to balance the rustic, mountain flavor of the home.  They are by far my favorite element among many great elements in this fantastic home.

What is one of your design secrets/ tricks that you used in this project?

I wanted the home to compliment and be rooted in the beauty of the area’s natural surroundings. To do that, I used a color palette of warm earthy gray and browns and filled the home with naturally balanced materials and textures.

What feature in this particular project would you want in your home?

I would love to have the Rec Room in my own home. It is a fun multi-functional space with a chic vibe.  The space includes a multi-level ceiling detail, a Whiskey/Wine Wet bar, ample game table space and a cozy movie watching area.  Overlooking the 18th hole, it is the perfect space for hanging out with family and friends.

New Arthur Rutenberg Homes Model Opens in Plain City, OH

The Hyde Park model is designed with the intent of providing a balanced mix of traditional farmhouse and modern architecture. The interior of this home provides homeowners with a retreat lifestyle, which centers on luxurious living spaces. The home incorporates extraordinary design features, including dramatic floating trusses, which create interest and comfort for a modern lifestyle. Throughout the secondary spaces in the home, there is a contrast of transitional architectural detail with contemporary pieces. On the lower level, brick faced walls create a fun family space including billiards and shuffle board.

Colleen Roach, Senior Designer at Arthur Rutenberg Homes, designs homes with modern clean lines and expressive custom artwork. We talked with Colleen to learn more about this model home, her design inspiration and the challenges that go into designing a model of this magnitude.

What did you enjoy most about this particular project?

Working with a new Building Company. It is always nice to establish new relationships within the industry. AJ and Ankur were great to work with and easily adapted to our standards which can at times be difficult for new franchises. I am always excited when we enter a new territory. It is interesting to learn about the buyer profile and research local design trends.

What is your favorite element in the space from this project?

I love the Master bedroom ceiling detail and over scaled light fixture. We typically follow the trend of encompassing ceiling details within a recess. This particular ceiling detail spans the entire ceiling which makes the space feel larger. The dramatic light fixture tops off the room!

What feature in this particular project would you want in your home?

The Master bath tub. The modern Kohler freestanding tub and floor mount faucet are placed in front of 3 large windows. It has a spa like feel and would be a great place to end a long day.

What was the biggest challenge for you during this particular project?

It takes an overwhelming amount of coordination to complete a model home of this caliber. We had quite a few delays with outside vendors which really made us work down to the wire. At the end of the day, it all came together and our design team can be proud of all the challenges we overcame together.
