If coming from the Tampa area (or North of the Manatee River, take I-75 to exit 224 (Ellenton exit). At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left onto Highway 301. Continue on this road about 2.5 miles until Old Tampa Road. Turn right and head southeast on Old Tampa Road to Ft. Hamer Road, about three miles down. Turn right again and you will see the entrance to The Islands of River Wilderness at the end of this road on the right. There is a guard gate here. Please tell him that you are going to see the Arthur Rutenberg model. If coming from the Sarasota area or areas to the South, take I-75 North to exit 220 (Highway 64). Go East about 4 miles until you come to Upper Manatee River Road/Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Turn left on Upper Manatee River Road until it intersects Ft. Hamer Road. Go straight on Fort Hamer, cross the bridge, and take the left at the bottom of the bridge. This will lead you right into the Islands gate. Please tell the guard that you are coming to see the ARH model. He will direct you to the model, which you will find by taking the first right after you enter the community. Go straight to Harbourside.
