The land was previously a 15-acre site owned by the Charles E. Barnhardt Estate, before being sold in 2015 and subdivided into a 37-lot single family home community. Originially built in 1938, the 6,500 square foot residence was commissioned by Charles E. Barnhardt, a well-known figure in the textile industry and designed by Martin E. Boyer, considered one of the premier architects of the 20th century. During the 1920's and 30's Boyer designed many of Charlotte's most elegant homes and is considered to be the city's most important revivalist architect. In 1948, George B. and Elizabeth Crooks Cramer, who met in London while George was serving in World War II, purchased the estate. The couple moved to the house and had two sons. The Cramer family enjoyed the house until it was sold in 2016 and surprisingly made no significant changes during their ownership. Nearly all of the interior and exterior architectural elements originally designed by Boyer remain today. The neighboring 36 lots in Cramer's Pond are available for building your very own custom home.
