Getting to “The Point” today on our inaugural tour of the completed Riverdale model with Carmen, Wray and Ben

Today marked the first time Ben Bowen and I were able to tour the newly completed Bluefield Builders/Arthur Rutenberg model home, the Riverdale, in The Point. Since Ben sold so many of the new homes in the Point for the developer, Crescent Resources, back in the early 2000’s, I was eager to hear his thoughts when we were able to go visit Carmen Hunter together.President of Builder Conciege

First of all, let me say what an amazing get together it was for the three of us. Years ago, when I was VP Sales for Shea here in Charlotte, I had the pleasure of getting to know the type of sales professional Carmen was when she sold many homes for us in a lakefront community called The Overlook. It’s been a few years since we’d seen one another, and it was really terrific to catch back up with her again.

Interestingly, Ben had been my star Builder Sales representative when I managed sales for another top 5 NYSE homebuilder back in the 90’s, in a well-known golf course community, before he’d moved on to get involved in the custom new home sales for Crescent Resources at The Point.

Needless to say, it felt like quite a reunion for me to be with two of the most experienced new home sales professionals I’ve had the good fortune to work with in my career!

Carmen Hunter did a terrific job of helping us understand every detail about her new model home, and she was already able to share some of the terrific feedback she’d gotten from the “parade” of people who’d just completed weeks of marching through it during Charlotte’s annual Parade of Homes. Of course Carmen also made sure we were able to also clearly see the broader picture of what Arthur Rutenberg homes is now offering new homebuyers in the Point – and all over the entire Lake Norman area too!

Carmen showed us the very cool kitchen pantry that’s hidden behind a “secret door” of cabinetry that’s much like something from a James Bond movie. She pointed out her gorgeous ceiling moulding treatments (which are always included!), and we all marveled at how well Rutenberg has figured out how to merchandise the rear yard patio/outdoor cooking/bar areas by including them as part of the home designs.

When we were in the upstairs “club room & media area” Ben summed it all up by saying “Wray this is an absolute slam dunk – the floorplan design and interior finishes are more striking than many of the much more expensive custom builders build into the same size homes – and the prices aren’t even close to touching what Rutenberg is able to do it all for.

Why is it that they’re able to do more quality for a better price? They’ve reinvented “custom” as being a building process done by smaller entrepreneurs who must price into their pricing a margin for errors. Quite simply, Mr. Rutenberg has figured out how to take the most proven and experienced professionals and place them into a franchise offering the financial strength and polished processes, combined with proven architectural designs offering plenty of choices – while all have already been drawn and professionally estimated so they DON’T HAVE TO PRICE IN A LARGE MARGIN FOR ERRORS.

Perhaps just as important as the amazing quality and value advantages is the simplified customer experience. No running around to a cabinet company here and a flooring supplier there to pick out the interior decor, it can all be done through their design studio. And yes, they’ve even figure out that many folks enjoy being able to go in for a “preview” to look everything over before making their final selections with the designer.

To sum up our visit today, it was remarkable to have the three if us together (all with what I’d venture to say is about as much experience in Charlotte new home sales as anyone combined!) to evaluate how Rutenberg is going to do in the coming years while marketing the Lake Norman area through the new Riverdale model home to visitors wanting the same high quality and design they can see there in their own brand NEW homes. The verdict was that the future’s so bright you better be wear shades all across the Lake area!

By the way, Carmen hasn’t been open long and she’s already helping folks buy new homes. Her first customers are building a version of the Riverdale model on a beautiful waterfront home site. She tells me there are well over 300+ opportunities to build a beautiful new Rutenberg home all over the Lake Norman area.
